Hi, we're...
The Council of First Nations is a national, Indigenous-led organisation established to support strong and united leadership by Traditional Owners across the country. We work to strengthen local and regional governance, support national coordination, and create space for First Nations peoples to make decisions on our own terms and in our own voices. The Council is currently in a formative stage — guided by an Interim Board and supported by a growing team. We are delivering a national program of engagement, planning a major national gathering, and building the foundations for a sustainable, representative and culturally grounded organisation that will serve First Nations communities for generations to come.
What we’re looking for...
A highly organised and motivated Operations & Executive Support Officer to provide critical governance and administrative support to our Board, executive team, and national program of work. The role is available for immediate start and is full-time until 31 December 2025. * Secretariat support for a Board and committees (scheduling, agendas, minutes, action tracking) * Basic bookkeeping (invoice processing, payment schedules, reconciliations, payroll support) * Administration of internal systems (SharePoint, document control, policy registers) * Executive assistance (email and diary management, meeting preparation) * Logistics coordination (travel, venue bookings, catering for meetings and events) * Support for membership and engagement record-keeping (database accuracy, compliance documentation)
Where you will work...
Out of our shared facility — The Commons, Surry Hills — alongside the National Native Title Council. The space is modern and welcoming, with great amenities including a kitchen, rooftop area, and table tennis. The role is also open to candidates located elsewhere in Australia, with flexible remote working arrangements available.
Why would you want to work for us...
This is a chance to be part of something purposeful. You’ll be contributing to work that matters, supporting First Nations leadership, strengthening governance, and helping to build a national organisation from the ground up. It’s a role where your skills will be valued, your impact will be visible, and your work will support a team committed to creating lasting change
The way to win us over is...
Show us that you're someone who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment. We're looking for a safe pair of hands – someone who’s reliable, organised, and solutions-focused. If you bring initiative, a collaborative mindset, and a connection to the purpose behind our work, let’s connect
